  • Overview

    Manages assigned accounts which require working with legal representation. Makes arrangements with attorneys to secure payment on accounts when litigation and or legal action is involved. Determines when legal efforts are exhausted and when other avenues of revenue should be considered. Conducts scheduled follow ups with attorneys or court clerk staff in order to obtain appropriate payment.

    Responsibilities

    Reviews files and conducts scheduled follow ups.

    • Reads file notes, determines steps required to obtain payment.
    • Conducts phone calls to County Clerk/Probate offices, Attorney offices for follow up of on status of legal issues.
    • Constructs letters and prepares attorney liens, demand letters, estate claims etc. as follow up to litigation matters.
    • Negotiates counter offers to attorneys/executors during negotiation.
    • Submits discount requests to Patient Account Leadership Team for approval to accept negotiation offers.

    Research

    • Conducts people search via web applications in an attempt to contact patient or patient representatives.
    • Examines state statutes regarding medical billing/Probate and Third Party Liability information in an attempt to file correct documents and be aware of reimbursement guidelines per statute.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent   

    Skills:

    • Ability to calculate numbers, correct entries, and post to records
    • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
    • Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.

    Experience:

    • Knowledge of Sweet billing system
    • Knowledge of state laws and statutes concerning litigation and probate matters
