  • Overview

    Conducts audits of payments received and account representative work processes and handles protected health information (PHI).  Reviews all files that have been submitted to the Self Pay Department to ensure all billing steps have been completed correctly and that any payment received has been made according to expected revenue. 

     

    Responsibilities

    Reviews files

    • Reviews all claim copies and payment details and ensures proper claim submission was completed and reimbursement has been received according to the expected revenue.
    • Evaluates account information in the billing software and account payment page to determine that the account has the proper debits and/or credits.
    • Conducts audits on files to determine that the Privacy policy has been sent to the patient per HIPAA guidelines.
    • Reviews files to determine that all correct paperwork including clinical documentation is present and accounted for and documents that all appropriate billing steps have been completed or noted any deficiency.
    • Inspects medical records release requests to ensure the proper release of information form has been completed and maintains a log of each disclosure requests and information released.

    Gathers and distributes files being reviewed

    • Submits audited files to either the Self Pay Department or they submit the file for approval to be archived.
    • Returns all unapproved files to the correct billing representative with detailed instructions on what must be completed before the account can be finalized.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • High school diploma or equivalent  

    Skills:

    • Ability to analyze and solve problems
    • Ability to read, sort, check, count and verify numbers
    • Ability to prepare routine administrative work
    • Records maintenance skills

    Experience:

    • One year experience with medical accounts, Medicare/Medicaid and Third Party Insurance knowledge required
    • One year or more experience in medical billing 

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment
    • No or very limited exposure to physical risk
    • May be required to sit for long periods of time
